About the Founder
The label is a reflection of Founder and Designer Kartik Zhaviah Dada's personal ethos of sustainable living and minimalism. He began his journey in the industry at the age of seventeen, working with a Turkmen seamstress who mentored him for a year. Thereafter, he moved to Paris, where he studied fashion design and worked with several international designers and brands.
Following his graduation, Kartik embarked on a transformative journey that took him to Barcelona, designing garments for the fast fashion market. Seeking continuous growth, he moved to Bangladesh, to work closely with factories. It was during this period that he witnessed firsthand the detrimental environmental impact of the fast fashion industry. Considering this adverse impact on the environment, Kartik redirected his efforts towards promoting sustainability in fashion. Meanwhile, he worked with the United Nations Environment Program as a Digital Marketing Associate, dedicating himself to promoting initiatives that foster a more sustainable future and universal brotherhood.
In November 2023, Kartik founded Zhaviah Studio with the ultimate goal of promoting sustainability and supporting the artisanal community in India. He aims to provide these artisans with a platform that can grant them the global recognition they truly deserve.
About the Co-founder
Sandhya Dada, Co-founder of Zhaviah Studio, a social worker and an educator for over 15+ years. She honed her teaching skills in various schools across North India, nurturing young minds.
In 2010, Sandhya took a significant step forward by venturing into education for children with special needs at VISHWAS, an NGO focused on disability and inclusive development. She worked with children with special needs and underprivileged youth, advocating for their rights and potential.
Later she moved overseas to Egypt and Dubai, where she assisted Indian prisoners to reconnect with their families and to acquire skills to in securing a better future. This experience deepened her understanding of social justice and the importance of community support.
In 2019, Sandhya founded Zhaviah Clothing, a parent company supplying ready-to-wear garments for women. Soonafter the business evolved, and in 2022, she became the co-founder of Zhaviah Studio, with her son Kartik. Together, they infused the brand with their shared vision of sustainability and social responsibility, creating a platform that not only celebrates fashion but also uplifts communities and fosters positive change.
Our design process is a creative journey that involves experimenting with various yarns, weaving techniques and detailed finishing. The designs and patterns of our fabrics play a pivotal role in determining the cuts and silhouettes of our final products. We have our manufacturing unit in Gurgaon along with additional arrangements in New Delhi, where we blend innovation and expertise to craft unique and high-quality garments
